We know it’s important for prospective Fund members to understand how our services and programs are designed to meet the needs of Texas public educational organizations.

Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions that explain how the Fund delivers value, peace of mind, and confidence to members navigating the rapidly evolving risk landscape.

What are the benefits of being part of the Fund rather than buying traditional insurance?

The Fund maintains a laser focus on the specific needs of Texas public education entities with coverage programs designed to promote safer learning and working environments. The Fund is managed by staff from the Texas Association of School Boards with oversight from a 19-member board of school administrators and board trustees who understand the challenges you face because they face them too.

The Fund does not operate for profit, so TASB staff is exclusively accountable to members, not shareholders. The Fund also understands the importance of governmental entities serving as good stewards of taxpayer dollars. The goal is to control risk, save resources, and enhance value. Fund members benefit from training and resources that empower their employees to prevent workplace injuries, property damage, and other losses.

What are the steps to become a Fund member?

The first step is to apply for coverage. Our online application includes a series of questions, such as the coverage requested and details about your organization.

Depending on the coverage requested, the following information will be required:

Average daily attendance
Annual budget
Estimated total annual payroll
Estimated number of full-time employees
Current coverage declarations page
Six-year loss reports (10 years if coastal property requesting Named Windstorm Coverage)
A current appraisal or building schedule if seeking Property coverage
A current vehicle schedule if seeking Auto coverage
Five years’ claim and wage data

Our underwriters evaluate every application to ensure the organization is a good fit for the Fund and the requested coverage program. If we are able to issue a quote, it generally takes about two weeks.
