New Ransomware Variant "Fog" Targeting Education Sector
A new ransomware variant known as "Fog" has recently targeted education organizations. Fog exploits leaked virtual private network (VPN) credentials to access school networks and lock down data until ransom demands are met.
The Fund encourages its members to take immediate action to protect their networks:
1. Change all VPN Credentials
Ensure that all users update their VPN credentials immediately. This helps prevent cybercriminals from using compromised credentials to gain unauthorized network access.
2. Implement Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Setting up MFA for your VPNs adds a layer of security, making it significantly harder for attackers to gain access even if they have valid credentials.
The Fund is here to support members in defending against ransomware and other cyberattacks. Contact us at 800-482-7276 for assistance.
