Compliance

The Fund stays current on regulations to ensure claims are adjusted timely and properly.  

High-Tier performer

The Fund has achieved the High-Tier Performer rating, issued by the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI), again this year. To receive the designation, a Workers’ Compensation carrier must meet or exceed 95 percent compliance with TDI requirements for accuracy and timeliness in claims handling.

TDI monitors compliance with the Texas Workers’ Compensation Act and Rules at least biannually. The Fund was named a high performer in 2007, when TDI implemented the first Performance Based Oversight assessment of high volume carriers and health care providers, as well as in 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2014. Timely payment and accurate processing of benefits and medical bills, along with successful representation at the hearing level, are critical components in measuring the success of a workers’ compensation program.  

High quality medical care and medical savings

The Fund's partnership in the Political Subdivision Workers' Compensation Alliance (the Alliance) ensures injured workers receive medical care from qualified health care providers who share a common goal of providing quality care, treating according to nationally recognized treatment guidelines, and returning injured employees to work.

In addition, the Fund partners with Optum, a leading pharmacy benefits management company, to save costs on medication.

Utilization management

TASB, as the Fund's administrator, is a licensed utilization review agent. In-house nurses handle preauthorization, and we employ two on-site, board-certified physicians. We also contract with dozens of peer reviewers to ensure appropriate care and to avoid paying for unnecessary or harmful treatment.  

Expert claims service

Our claims adjusters are TASB employees specially trained in addressing the particular needs of Texas school districts and related organizations.

Flexible funding options
