Tropical Storm Bertha Update
Weather reports indicate Tropical Storm Bertha will arrive at the Texas coast Thursday, July 23 or Friday, July 24. At this time, it is unclear whether Bertha will bring significant wind to the region. The greatest risk appears to be heavy rainfall. Take action now to help mitigate damage and protect property.
Mitigate Damage
Take these steps now, if they can be done safely, to help mitigate damage from the storm. For more preparation tips, see HSB's Weather Preparedness Resources, which include hurricane, flooding, and power outage resources:
- Board up windows.
- Secure or remove outdoor equipment and other loose property that could become dangerous projectiles.
- Turn propane tanks off to reduce the risk of explosion.
- Ensure backup power for sump pumps, which remove accumulated water.
- Elevate electrical equipment and accessories such as surge protectors and power cords.
- Move vehicles from lower-lying areas to higher ground.

Tropical Storm Bertha could bring heavy rainfall and flooding. Just 1 inch of water inside a building can cause as much as $25,000 or more in damage. Taking a few simple steps now can help protect people, property, and recovery afterward.

If there is evidence that your vehicles sustained water damage, please do not attempt to move them. We will arrange for an inspection after you report a claim.
