This session examines emerging risks with the greatest budget and community impact, including rising property insurance pressures driven by weather and inflation, evolving liability trends, and the growth of ransomware threats and the board’s role in response. Participants will leave better prepared to anticipate risk and make informed, strategic decisions that safeguard their district.

Cybersecurity Governance for New Trustees

New trustees do not need to be cybersecurity experts, but they do need to understand how board oversight supports a district’s cybersecurity efforts. This session offers a practical introduction to the board’s role, including policy, budgeting, and general risk awareness. Participants will leave with a better sense of the questions trustees can ask, the areas that deserve board attention, and how to reinforce cybersecurity priorities while staying firmly within their governance role.

School Safety & Security: What Every Board Member Needs to Know

Participants will learn about key Texas laws and requirements, including emergency operations planning, safety and security committees, threat assessment teams, and armed security requirements. Attendees will also learn governance best practices, common challenges districts face, and questions board members should ask to ensure their district’s safety systems are effective.
