Online Threat Assessment: Balancing Privacy and Security
When: Thursday, December 5, 10–11 a.m.
Description: School districts are proactively working to secure student and staff safety. They run fire and emergency event drills, but can never fully anticipate when a crisis will occur. Or can they? There are now several social media threat alert platforms that claim to be able to analyze student and staff social media posts in order to predict and prevent acts of violence.
In this webinar, we will discuss some of these platforms and how they operate. We will also evaluate the pros and cons of deploying such systems in school districts, with a particular focus on handling sensitive information and data privacy.
Presenters: Lucas Anderson, privacy and cyber risk consultant; and Melanie Moss, Emergency Management and School Security Consultant, TASB Risk Management Services
Suggested audience: Board members, business managers, campus administrators, campus police/school resource officers, emergency managers, human resources staff, operations staff, technology/IT staff, risk managers
