Emergency Management and School Security Program

Educational institutions are expected to provide safe and secure learning environments for students. Statistics show that schools are among the safest places for children to be; however, schools are vulnerable to the same hazards as the communities and neighborhoods they serve.

Natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods, fires, and tornadoes can strike a community with little or no warning. Crime, accidents, infectious diseases, and school violence are only some of the human-caused emergencies that a school must be prepared to manage.

We can help

Schools must develop systemic plans and training to prevent, mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from any critical incident that may occur. The Fund's Emergency Management and School Security Program includes training, consultation, and resources to help schools ensure their plans and procedures will effectively keep students and staff safe.
