Beard has served the Longview ISD School Board for 8 years.  He is currently the assistant secretary of the Board and was appointed to the Risk Management Fund Board in November 2007.

Beard serves as a Service Representative for the Social Security Administration and a Sergeant major in the U.S. Army Reserve. He served in both Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom Operations. He has also served as a TASB Delegate, representing Longview ISD, for 4 years at the TASB/TASA Delegate Assembly. He and his wife Rosalind are the parents of three sons and two daughters.
