Ransomware Attack on Governmental Entities

August 19, 2019 Lucas Anderson

The Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) reports that over the weekend, 23 governmental entities were hit with a ransomware attack.

The majority of these entities are smaller local government networks. It appears that all impacted entities have been identified and DIR is working to assist them with recovery and mitigation efforts. The State of Texas systems were not impacted. DIR believes all the attacks originated from a single actor.

Additionally, DIR has compiled a list of best practices for cybersecurity along with a press release with additional details about the recent attacks.

Though this incident seems to have concluded, ransomware attacks are on the rise. Ongoing cybersecurity awareness training is a great step in preventing such attacks from being successful against your network.
