Holiday Safety Reminder

November 29, 2017 Melanie Moss

T’was the Week Before Christmas

As school districts and other educational entities get ready for the holidays, safety and security must be an ongoing effort. Let this poem serve as a reminder of the steps needed to ensure a safe and healthy holiday season.

T’was the week before Christmas and all through the halls, students and staff were decorating the walls. Artwork was hung in the classroom with care to ensure that safety was everywhere.

The children were snuggled all safe in their desks, with low wattage lights hung so picturesque. Teachers in their classrooms and administrators up front, had strategies in place to make sure there were no stunts.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, a fire drill occurring even though nothing was the matter. The teachers counted students one, two, three – to ensure all were there for accountability.

The countdown was on, school would soon be out.
Perishable items were disposed of, so no need to pout. When what to our prepared eyes should appear, but an emergency operations plan to keep us safe all year.

Now also check pipes, now valves, now boilers, and fire suppression.
Oh, check fleet and batteries for winterization. Dryer lint is cleared to prevent any fires. Exits are cleared as the fire code requires.

Then from the back of the playground, to the top of the walls, students were dashing away one and all. So, up to the doors the staff they did fly, to leave for the holidays to get gifts they still need to buy.

With the little old mail carrier, so lively and quick, the claim was delivered for the employee with the nick. More rapid than eagles, the UC claims they came, the school was prepared to meet deadlines with no shame.

As administrators left, they did one final check, and made sure they had emergency protocols on deck. But the administrator proclaimed as he drove away with glee if we have any problems, we can still call TASB.

These practices and procedures will ensure a safe, healthy, and secure learning environment throughout the year. For information about emergency management and security, please contact Emergency Management and School Security Consultant Melanie Moss.
