Fund Awards Members for Innovation

Innovation doesn’t go unnoticed by the Fund. Each year, we recognize members for innovation and success in risk management.

Congratulations to this year’s winners: Alief ISD, Blum ISD, Damon ISD, Eanes ISD, Floydada ISD, Garland ISD, Lamar CISD, Longview ISD, Marion ISD, Rogers ISD, and Wharton Junior College.

  • Alief ISD implemented the RediMed Employee Health Clinic, which consists of a private room (adjacent to the school nurse’s office) where staff can consult with a doctor face-to-face via a webcam.
  • Blum ISD started the Catwalk Walking Program. The district purchased pedometers for all 63 employees and furnished a user-friendly spreadsheet for each goal set, rewarding participants when they achieve a goal.
  • Damon ISD addressed needed improvements to locks with the Lockaid Program. The district found a company to retrofit old door locks using Lockaid guards that slipped over the door latch from the inside of the rooms.
  • Eanes ISD was honored for the Exterior Door Numbering Initiative. The numbering system was designed to aid police, fire, and emergency medical personnel during responses to campus emergencies.
  • Floydada ISD received the award for the Employee Wellness Clinic. Since 2003, the district has sponsored an employee wellness clinic to provide medical screenings for staff members.  In conjunction with Covenant Medical Services, the district offers each employee the opportunity to receive health screenings at the on-site clinic at no cost.
  • Garland ISD was awarded for Staff Safety Videos. After experiencing extensive slips, trips, and falls, Garland ISD staff and students were encouraged to create 1-3 minute videos promoting ways to make the campus safer, covering a different safety topic each month.
  • Lamar CISD was recognized for the Bilingual Employee Wellness Program that includes many benefits. To ensure employees are knowledgeable about the benefits, online videos in English and Spanish were developed.
  • Longview ISD is well-known around Texas for the “Lobo Green” color scheme. They are also going green in efforts to be environmentally friendly.  In the 2010-11 school year, the district made a decision to begin recycling – metal, glass, paper and plastic. Collaborating with Allied Waste Services (Republic Services) each staff member was trained on why and how to become a more environmentally friendly district.
  • Marion ISD developed a bucket for each classroom called a “Go Bucket” that can be used to store snacks, first aid kits, and more in case of an emergency. This idea was adapted from the “I Love U Guys” Standard Response Protocol (SRP).
  • Rogers ISD created the Emergency Task Committee to make classrooms the safest place for students and teachers during crisis situations. Lockdown magnets were purchased to pilot at the elementary campus.  Teachers can quickly secure the classroom and focus on getting students in a sheltered place during an emergency.
  • Wharton Junior College started the initiative “Crews with Proper Shoes” in an effort to reduce slips, trips, and falls. During the second year of the program, the department had only one claim, and this past year, there were no claims involving slips, trips, and falls.
