Since 1998, the Fund’s Loss Prevention Grant program has distributed 3,044 total grants of more than $8.11 million to Fund members in the Workers’ Compensation, Auto, and Property programs. These grants help fund loss prevention and safety initiatives to reduce the potential for property losses and on-the-job injuries, improve emergency management operations, and raise awareness of safety issues.
Workers’ compensation grants focused on fall prevention, personal lifting devices, and personal protective equipment. Facilities security initiatives, driver improvement, and vehicle safety were the primary areas receiving grants under the property and auto programs.
"The TASB Risk Management Fund is committed to meeting the needs of our members," said Clem Zabalza, division director of TASB Risk Solutions. "This year, our members submitted more grant applications than ever before. These grants help members implement creative solutions that reduce their risks, preserving resources for their primary mission as educators."
In 2016, the Fund awarded $700,000 to 222 recipients at 209 school districts, eight community colleges, four regional education service centers, and one shared service arrangement. In 2015, the Fund awarded 2015 Loss Prevention Grants to 170 school districts, seven community colleges, and three regional education service centers totaling $700,000.
