TSA in conjunction with several national school transportation associations has developed a new security awareness information and training program for the school transportation industry. The program includes a DVD and online training materials that include awareness of security and criminal threats to school buses, bus passengers, and destination facilities. These materials will provide bus drivers, administrators, and staff members with the information and skills to indentify, report, react, and respond appropriately in case of a security incident.
The topics covered in the program include:
-
Terrorism Defined
-
Who are Terrorists?
-
Define And Indentify A Security Threat
-
Define And Indentify A Security Incident
-
Potential Weapons and The Probability Of Use
-
Joint Planning Between Organizations
-
Leadership Begins At The Top
This program also demonstrates the importance of incorporating all district activities into Multi-Hazard Emergency Operations Plans and coordination with local emergency responders. Currently, materials are being developed in English and Spanish as well as online training modules. A 24-minute DVD simulating a bus hijacking is available for free that can be used to provide additional information for the online training modules. TSA is inviting school districts to register on the STSA Website to gain access to the online training materials and request a free copies of the training DVD. Upon completing the registration process, district staff members can log into the Web site to obtain access to training modules and order the training DVD. Registration is free for all school districts.
