No Certification Required to Conduct School Safety and Security Audits

Section 37.108 of the Texas Education Code mandates all school districts to conduct a security audit of the district’s facilities at least once every three years. According to the code, districts should follow security audit procedures developed by the Texas School Safety Center or a comparable public or private entity. Although the school district should ensure competent personnel are performing the audit, there is no specific certification required by the Texas Education Code or administrative rules. The Texas School Safety Center does not currently require certification for school safety and security auditors, nor is there a recognized program or designation.
