Loss Prevention Hot Topics: Flu Season Preparation
No matter the size of the district, it is always imperative to have a plan in place during the Flu season in order to protect school district employees and students from a severe outbreak. It is important that the following list of recommendations be reviewed and applied to your district.
-
Identify a coordinator within the district whom is responsible for H1N1 flu issues. Coordinators can check online resources about Flu prevention, and contact local health departments and providers for advice, protocols, and guidance.
-
Examine policies for leave and employee compensation.
-
Identify essential employees, business functions, and other critical inputs (e.g. student transportation, teachers, IT support, and logistics) and prepare continuity plans to have each essential business operation covered in case of severe outbreak.
-
Share your pandemic plans with employees and parents and clearly communicate expectations. It is important to consider ways to communicate your plan to parents and employees who don't speak English.
-
Establish an emergency communications plan. This plan includes identification of key contacts (with back-ups) and chain of communications (including teachers, adminstration, students, and parents).
