Preparedness

The preparedness phase is designed to prepare the school community for potential emergencies by coordinating with community partners through the development of the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), including policies and protocols, incident command systems, training, drills, and exercises. Understanding and utilizing the National Incident Management System (NIMS) is important during this phase.

Some preparedness activities include:

  • Regular meetings of the School Safety and Security Committee  (TEC 37.109)
  • Creating a NIMS-compliant EOP (TEC 37.108)
  • Conducting regular training, drills, and exercises based on the EOP
  • Collaboration with community agencies in development of plans and mutual aid agreements
