Clem Zabalza Promoted to Director of Loss Prevention
By Charles Hueter
We are excited to announce that Clemente “Clem” Zabalza has been promoted to Division Director of Loss Prevention Services. He will be responsible for the Fund’s programs that reduce member exposures and losses through education, training, and grants. Clem’s loss prevention career began in 1993 and he joined TASB Risk Management Services in 1998, bringing a wealth of experience to this position.
He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas, with a major in Marketing and Finance, and a Master of Science in Occupational Safety from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. He is a certified Occupational Health and Safety Technologist, a professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, and fluent in Spanish.
“I am excited to be offered the opportunity to manage the Loss Prevention Services Division. My personal goal is for our division to continue to be an important partner with Fund members in addressing their loss prevention issues and concerns. We will accomplish this by continuing to provide high quality, low cost solutions and services to the membership,” said Clem.
Clem will be succeeding Edwin Thompson, who retires on September 30. Since joining TASB in 1997, Edwin has led Loss Prevention through a remarkable period of growth. He created the Loss Prevention Grant program, oversaw the restructuring of Loss Prevention as its own division, and kick-started the development of the new school safety and emergency management initiative. Under his supervision, Loss Prevention Services embraced new technologies and offered members innovative training programs.
“Clem has been my Assistant Division Director for the last four years and his in-depth school district knowledge and experience, managerial skills, and professional commitment make him intimately qualified to effectively lead the Division,” said Edwin.
