2008 TASB Risk Management Fund Innovation Award Winners Announced

After five years, 45 winners, and $45,000 in award monies, there is no reason to stop this successful program. This annual award recognizes members who have demonstrated innovation and success in their daily risk management operations. A variety of applications, ranging from safety signs and videos, training programs, and wellness initiatives, have been submitted over the past five years. This year, 10 deserving members were selected for their creative risk management efforts and awarded $1,000 each. Want to know who won and why? Below is a quick synopsis of the 2008 award-winning entries.

Aldine ISD
Risk manager and campus safety council developed videos and safety signs featuring employees performing tasks safely.

Deer Park ISD
Deer Park created an informative and comical “Think Safety” video for its staff.

Eanes ISD
Eanes ISD developed an Intruder Drill Program as an added security measure to keep students safe.

Garland ISD
“Safety is a Treasure. Don’t Hide It” was a safety campaign created by  Garland ISD  with a presentation to all administrative staff.

Irving ISD
Irving ISD created a video package of key benefits that the district offered its employees.

Katy ISD
Katy ISD implemented a program to help purchase non-slip shoes for their custodial staff.

Lubbock ISD
Lubbock ISD initiated a $250 deductible credit toward employees’ annual health insurance deductibles if they completed an online Health Risk Assessment.

Muleshoe ISD
Muleshoe created an Employee Wellness Program that utilized a point system and prizes.

Rio Vista ISD
Rio Vista developed a “No Child Left Behind” program to ensure a safe passage for students riding the bus.

South Texas College
South Texas College adapted a five-step risk management process that is used by the U.S. Military.

The 2009 application will be available on line this summer, and award winners will be announced again at the 2009 Fund Conference.
