Introducing Marissa Saucedo, Loss Prevention Consultant
By Charles Hueter
We are happy to announce the latest addition to the Loss Prevention Services staff. Marissa Saucedo will join our team in September after spending more than five years as an adjuster in Property and Liability Claims Administration. Prior to her tenure at TASB, she worked in private insurance as a licensed property casualty adjuster and subrogation collector. Over her career, she has accumulated twelve years of claim handling experience.
Marissa will be responsible for coordinating and developing multi-day training seminars such as the Loss Prevention Coordinator Course and the Vehicle Collision Investigation course. She will also provide loss prevention services to assigned Workers’ Compensation and Property and Liability members in parts of ESC Region 13.
Marissa earned an associate’s degree in Psychology from Austin Community College and is pursuing a Bachelors of Applied Arts and Science degree with a certification in Public Management through Texas State University.
I asked Marissa a few questions about her risk management experience, her outlook on loss prevention, and what she thought about the challenges Fund members face. This is what she had to say:
Given your prior experience in Property and Liability Claims, how can this experience assist Fund members in preventing losses?
Handling losses in the Property and Liability Claims Administration Division has given me the opportunity to work with an experienced and knowledgeable group. I have learned a great deal about our coverage document and school immunities. I’ve gained in depth information on claim processes and procedures. I hope to be a resource for our members in this capacity. In addition, I have developed a good understanding of how a loss occurs from constant investigation in liability and injury claims. I believe this will be the key in being able to recognize the risk before a loss occurs and serving our members, with whom I have built a good rapport.
From your perspective as someone starting in loss prevention, what loss prevention service would you recommend to any Fund member to consider?
Members who take advantage of our loss prevention services do themselves a favor because effective loss prevention programs lower risk and help our members save money. In my opinion, Fund members would stand to benefit the most when they participate in all of the available loss prevention services. It is a win-win.
What are the top risk management challenges Fund members face?
Given the current economic situation in this country, budget shortfalls, in my opinion, are the biggest challenge our members face. With so many cutbacks taking place it will be difficult for members to keep safety, loss prevention, and training in the forefront.
Join us in welcoming Marissa Saucedo to the Loss Prevention team!
